 On October 24, 2000, Ashley Pierce had surgery due to internal bleeding caused by an ovarian cyst that burst. During surgery, doctors found a liver tumor caused by what had previously been undiagnosed melanoma and removed it. At the time of surgery,

At the time of surgery, it was known that Pierce had cancer but it was not known she had a tumor on her liver. The photo Pierce is holding is of her stomach after surgery. About 50 staples were used to close the incision. Pierce ended up losing her battle with cancer and died in 2002.
